Vicki Sutherland Ceramic Artist

Profile

Vicki is a ceramic artist living and working in Dublin. Her current work is inspired by beach-combing for fern fossils many years ago in New Zealand. The original ferns had been covered in volcanic ash in the Jurassic era and slowly turned into stone fossils. This inspired her to create porcelain fossils of plants, in particular ferns.  The plants are covered in thin layers of liquid porcelain and slowly fired until all organic traces are obliterated. Leaving behind porcelain plant skeletons. Which are displayed in the Victorian fashion under glass domes
