Golden Light - Mull

Louise writes about her work:

‘My work is inspired by an emotional response to the natural world, in particular to the quality of light. I draw in the landscape, collecting information about particular places which have meaning for me. I want to put into the paintings the experience of being there, the weather, sounds, smells and the process of walking through the landscape, as much as what I can see. I then paint intuitively in the studio, using oil paint in direct and gestural brushstrokes. My paintings relate to the English landscape tradition, particularly Turner, and Constable‚Äôs oil sketches are an important influence. I am based in Kent but often travel to different parts of the UK, for example to Scotland or Cornwall, to draw and gather material there.’
